The Gathering
“The Holy Spirit calls us together as the people of God” (Evangelical Lutheran Worship pg. 92)
A journey of faith is not a journey to be taken alone. Together, we confess our sins and receive forgiveness, then open our hearts to Christ’s Word and Meal with hymns, greetings, and prayers.
The Word
God speaks to us in scripture reading, preaching, and song” (Evangelical Lutheran Worship pg. 92)
We look to God’s Word, delivered by a lector, in the form of Old and New Testament, Psalm, and Gospel readings. The children are invited forward for a brief children’s chat and prayer, followed by the Pastor’s sermon. We honor the themes of the message with the Hymn of the Day and the passing of the peace. The collection of the Offering is performed by a musical Offertory anthem.
The Meal
“God feeds us with the presence of Jesus Christ” (Evangelical Lutheran Worship p. 93)
Jesus “took bread, gave thanks, broke it, and gave it.” and commanded us to “do this in remembrance of me”. Centuries later, we continue this act of worship as we prepare to receive Communion with elements such as the Creed and the Lord’s Prayer.
The Sending
“God blesses us and sends us in mission to the world” (Evangelical Lutheran Worship p. 93)
Bolstered by the Word and fed with the presence of Christ, we are sent out to take God’s message with us into the world. “Go in peace. Serve the Lord. Thanks be to God.
